Who we help - Spouses

Support for Spouses and Partners of Veterans

Supporting a partner through life in the Armed Forces can bring unique challenges, and the transition out of service is one that affects the whole family. Many partners find that frequent moves, career interruptions and shifting responsibilities can make it harder to build or maintain their own career, leading to gaps in employment and uncertainty about the next step.

While support does exist, it’s not always easy to find or access at the right time. That’s where we come in – providing clear guidance, practical support and encouragement to help partners rebuild confidence, regain momentum and move forward into meaningful employment.

Laura's Story

For more than twenty years, military life shaped Laura’s world. Her husband has served in the British Army for 21 years and continues to serve today, and together they have navigated deployments, relocations, and the constant adjustments that come with service life. Alongside that, Laura built her own career as a qualified paramedic, working in local ambulance services before moving into the NHS 111 service. Now based at RNAS Yeovilton, she balances work, family life, and the unique demands that come with being part of a military household.

Romane's Story

Romane met her husband while he was serving as a lieutenant – later a captain – in the New Zealand Defence Force. When he transferred to the British Army in 2024, she followed him to the UK the following year, settling in York while he worked at Imphal Barracks. Moving to the UK meant starting again in every sense: new surroundings, new routines, and no familiar support network.

Before the move, Romane had built her career as an administrator at Massey University in New Zealand. She knew she had the skills to continue that path in Britain, but the transition was far from straightforward. Starting again in a new country brought uncertainty and a real pressure to settle quickly, and the job search felt even more daunting because of it.
