Trudy’s Story
Although having never served herself, Trudy ‘s husband, Mark, served as a rifleman in the Light Infantry between 1984 and 1993. Sadly, when Mike lost his sight as a result of a hereditary eye condition, Trudy was forced to leave her job to care for him which she did for 25 years before he sadly passed away.
Trudy decided that she wanted to get back into work but she didn’t know where to start and, with her confidence at a low, she signed up for a Lifeworks course.
“It made me feel included and taught me several new skills, boosting my confidence immensely.”
The course enabled Trudy to learn how to write a new CV, as well as the skill of including key words in application letters, and made her realise that she had some great transferable skills – a common concern for many of those on Lifeworks courses. Arranged mock interviews also enabled Trudy to build her confidence ready for attending real interviews which she attained very soon after.
Since completing the course, Trudy has held two jobs with her current role in hospitality one that she loves as it allows her to interact with others.
“Having a job has given me structure in my life and makes me feel worthwhile.”
